Continuing its commitment to help Bookbridge in its vision to make education free and accessible to all, Scouts are mobilized at national and local levels as Bookbridge expands its work in Cambodia.
Today, two libraries have already been set up in Cambodia. One in Takeo and the other is in Siem Reap. So far, two Cambodian volunteers had been trained for library management training, and one German volunteer conducted English teacher training and library life pelatihan.
Takeo library opened last August while Siem Reap library just opened last month. Since its opening, around 500 children and young people have visited the libraries enjoying the books and other educational materials available for them. Presently, Takeo library has 6 volunteers while Siem reap has only one.
Since its pilot project in 2009, Bookbridge has put up 10 libraries in different parts of Mongolia.
WOSM has been helping Bookbridge identify the countries which are in need of libraries and provide access through its network of National Scout Organizations. At regional, national and local level, Scouts are sent out to help in collecting, sorting, shipping and distributing books in various educational centers.
Today Bookbridge and WOSM join hands in laying the foundation of lifelong learning and even promoting social entrepreneurship. While Bookbridge is happy in its work of increasing the value of education through its libraries, it hopes to become financially self-sustaining in the future.
